The Innovation and Human Capital Summit

Creating Conversations and Environments for Success

May 15 and 16, 2007

8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Queens University of Charlotte

Sponsored by WFAE (90.7FM), ICF Charlotte, The Harnisch Family Foundation, CASHRM, Infotool, and the McColl School of Business Leadership Initiative.

It’s easy to think that innovation happens only in biotech or other highly technical companies. If innovation is, “1: The introduction of something new, 2: A new idea, method, or device,” as defined in Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary, then we all are in positions to innovate, no matter where we work. Innovation is critical to every business and organization striving for success.

In this age of “do more with less” who can afford not to innovate? Still, if we all are in positions to innovate, why don’t we? We’re all smart people with great ideas – right? Can it be that how we converse and relate with one another every day is a big piece of what’s holding us back?

To get to our next level of greatness depends on the quality of the culture, which depends on the quality of relationships, which depends on the quality of conversations.Everything happens through conversation. Judith E. Glaser, featured speaker, consultant, and author of the DNA of Leadership and Creating WE

In her twenty plus years with organizations, Judith has seen command and control leadership styles stifling innovation and creativity and keeping great ideas from boosting the bottom line. Collaborative leaders, on the other hand, open people and organizations to new ideas and methods, allowing our natural creativity to shine through and serve us all.
